Shakespeare's Legacy 400

2016 marks 400 years since Shakespeare's death - 400 years of his enduring legacy. All over the world, Shakespeare lovers are marking this event with special celebrations.

Oct 7, 2016, 8:00-10:30 pm  - SF Shakes co-hosts LitQuake's Opening Night Gala Shakespeare@400, at the Green Room, overlooking San Francisco City Hall. Festivities include our presentation of Shakespeares' Bawdiest Words.

Oct 15, 2016, 7:15-8:15 pm - SF Shakes presents our touring, production of Twelfth Night during Phase 2 of LitCrawl at Deepistan Parklet, 937 Valencia St, San Francisco. No ticket or reservation needed for this complimentary show.

January 14, 2016 - SF Shakes presented Robin Goodrin Nordli's one-woman show Virgins to Villains at the Presidio Officers' Club.

April 13, 2016  - ShotzSF will present a benefit performance for SF Shakes at PianoFight, 144 Taylor St in SF. The theme will be "Shakespeare Mash-up," and all proceeds after expenses will go to support SF Shakes programs.

April 23, 2016, 2:00 pm - SF Shakes presents 400 Words Shakespeare Gave Us at Folio Books, 3957 24th St, San Francisco. Free event.

April 23, 2016, 11:00 am - Marin Shakespeare Company presents a Sonnet Celebration at the Plaza (Fourth and Court) in San Rafael. Sign up to read your favorite sonnet at the open mic! 

April 23, 2016, 12-7 pm - Livermore Shakespeare Festival presents Shakesbeer at Eight Bridges Brewing Co - featuring the best drinking scenes in Shakespeare! Proceeds benefit LSF's programs in the public schools.

April 23, 2016, 9am-12pm - Cal Shakes joins Orinda Action Day at the Orinda Library Plaza. Join the community for a day of service to keep Orinda clean and green. Orinda Intermediate School's seventh grade students have been working with Cal Shakes teaching artist Trish Tillman and will perform a scene from Henry VIII.

April 23, 2016 is Cal Shakes Day, proclaimed by Orinda Mayor Victoria Smith, in honor of the 400 year legacy of William Shakespeare (and his birthday), the 25-year anniversary of Cal Shakes at the Bruns Amphitheater, their 42nd season drawing on the power of authentic and inclusive theater, and the first year of their incoming Artistic Director, Eric Ting.

May 6-14, 2016 The A.C.T. Master of Fine Arts Program presents Cardenio, at A.C.T.’s Strand Theater, 1127 Market Street, San Francisco. Written by Stephen Greenblatt and Charles Mee, this modern romantic farce gives Shakespeare a shake-up.

August 18, 2016, 6:30 pm - SF Shakes presents 400 Words Shakespeare Gave Us at the SF Public Library Main Branch, 100 Larkin St, SF.

Sept 1, 2016, 6:30 pm - Awake Your Faith a lively presentation by Rebecca J. Ennals, SF Shakes Artistic Director, that explores the plot and themes of Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale.
