SF Shakespeare Festival

Marie is thrilled to return to SF Shakes, where she has worked as stage manager, actor and educator. Around the Bay Area, Marie has stage managed for Marin Shakespeare Company, Marin Theatre Company, Golden Thread Productions, The Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, San Jose Stage Company, Pacific Alliance Stage Company; the world premieres of The Fourth Messenger and Crystal Springs; and eight months on the long-running commercial hit, Shear Madness. Via her own company, Marie has produced and managed events for corporate and private clients and also has over a decade of executive-level experience in the film industry, in both production and marketing. She received an M.F.A. in Classical Acting from The Shakespeare Theatre Company (in conjunction with George Washington University) in Washington, D.C.

Ryan is happy to be back for his fifth summer in the parks, having previously worked on Henry V, The Taming of the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet and The Winter’s Tale. You can hear his noises and music elsewhere around the Bay Area, including Redwood City’s Dragon Productions, San Francisco’s Faultline, and The Custom Made Theatre Company (where he’s a Company Member and Resident Sound Designer). John has been designing and working in theater since the time when artists moved to San Francisco because it was affordable. In addition to freelancing for pretty much everyone in the Bay Area at one time or another, he has worked long stints as the in-house Lighting Designer first at the Rohnert Park Spreckles Performing Arts Center and then the New Conservatory Theater Center in San Francisco. He is very happy to be working outside again with his first show with SF Shakes.

Siena is excited to return to SF Shakes after working as a lighting intern on last year's Free Shakespeare in the Park production of The Winter's Tale. They are a rising junior at Wellesley College majoring in History and minoring in Women's and Gender Studies. At Wellesley, they work with Upstage, the student theatre company, in a quickly rotating assortment of technical positions. Recent credits include The White Snake (Stage Manager), Machinal (Lighting Designer/Master Electrician), and We Won't Pay! We Won't Pay! (Production Manager).

Darbus Oldham has been a part of Free Shakespeare in the Park for eight summers, first as an intern and now for the fourth year as Master Electrician. He graduated from Swarthmore College, where majored in Engineering and minored in Japanese. At Swarthmore, he acted as stage manager for a devised piece, Jessica, the production manager for Medea, and the lighting designer for Urinetown  : The Musical. He also played Old Man Strong in Urinetown and Quince in A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Sinead is 17 years old and a student at The Nueva School. She is thrilled to be joining the SF Shakes Intern Company this summer. She got her start in costume design when she was four and made clothes for her dolls. Since then, her work has expanded to real people. She has been the costume designer for Upstage Theater, a teen run theater company for the past year and a half. Past costume design credits include Spring Awakening (Upstage), Punk Rock (Upstage), and Heathers (Upstage). She also produced the first One Act Festival at her school and is planning to continue the tradition next year. This is her second Shakespeare play and she hopes that there will be many more in her future.

Emily Stevens is a production intern from Chicago and this is her first time working with the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival. She has previously been involved in theatre and film with the Naperville School of Performing Arts, Fire Escape Films, and the University of Chicago’s University Theatre. Plays and films she has worked on or acted in include Iphigenia and Other Daughters (UT), Death Window (FEF), Geography of a Horse Dreamer (UT), and Full Spectrum Dominance (FEF).

Jessa is thrilled to be a part of the SF Shakes Intern Company this summer. She is a rising senior at The Nueva School and is the co-founder of Upstage Theater, a teen-run company. Previous shows she’s stage managed include Next to Normal (The Refuge), Spring Awakening (Upstage), Punk Rock (Upstage), and Heathers (Upstage).

Emily Hawkins is currently attending the University of Southern California, majoring in Theatre and Political Science. As an aspiring director, she knew working as a Production Intern would be beneficial to future directing endeavors, enabling her to properly understand and communicate with all departments of the production team. Emily is thrilled to be working with SF Shakes for the first time this Summer. Recent productions she’s worked on include Les Miserables (MTU), Rabbit Hole (ATC), Heathers (MTR), and Fiddler On the Roof (PSHS).

Jay designed the SF Shakes/Los Altos Youth Theatre’s co-productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Little Princess, as well SF Shakes’ The Winter’s Tale. In 2016 he also designed SF Mime Troupe’s Schooled, Origins of Love at the University of San Francisco, and Golden Thread’s ReOrient play fest. He’s designed for French-American International High School, Cinnabar Theatre (Petaluma), 6th Street Playhouse (Santa Rosa), Palo Alto Players, Raven Players (Healdsburg), Coastal Rep (Half Moon Bay), and Theatre Rhinoceros. Will Shattuc is an Oakland-born director, playwright, teaching artist, and graphic designer. A SF Shakes legacy, they got their start at a 2001 camp as Marc Antony wearing a pillowcase, and have since gone on to Assistant Direct The Winter's Tale and As You Like It on our main stage and served on the 35 Speeches Committee. They are currently co-directing our upcoming tour production of The Merry Wives of Windsor. They helped found Oakland Classical Theater Co., a company dedicated to putting on free productions with under-30 artists in Oakland; their most recent production was directing Dr. Faustus by Christopher Marlowe. Will graduated from Hampshire College with a B.A., focusing on ensemble theater, and are an alumni of the Shakespeare Academy at Stratford, CT, and studied Viewpoints program at Divadlo Archa in Prague. They are inspired by the work of the Federal Theater Project under the New Deal and The Public Theater in New York and firmly believe in SF Shakespeare's mission of "Art for All!"

Carla is excited to be working with Free Shakespeare again, having played Paulina in The Winter’s Tale, Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet, and Kate in The Taming of the Shrew. She’ll be directing the upcoming Shakespeare On Tour production of Romeo and Juliet. She’s performed with Cal Shakes, Shotgun Players, Crowded Fire, Playground, Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, and the SF Mime Troupe in the Bay Area to name a few. Carla is a certified fight instructor and a founding member of Dueling Arts San Francisco. She is a proud member of Playground and a Resident Artist with the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival.

Brooke is ecstatic to make her SF Shakes debut with this incredible production of Hamlet. A graduate of UC Santa Cruz’s Theater Arts Masters Program, Brooke is an award winning Costume Designer working in the Bay Area and New York. Credits include San Francisco Playhouse (Colossal, The Nether, Stage Kiss), Berkeley Playhouse (Peter Pan The Musical), We Players (Romeo and Juliet, HeroMonster, Ondine), Magic Theater (asst. designer: A Lie of the Mind, Bad Jews), FaultLine Theater (Every 28 Hours, Maggie’s Riff, Dead Dog’s Bone), Virago Theatre (The Singularity (New York Premier, 2015)), Custom Made Theater Company (Mother Night, Belleville, Chess The Musical, Six Degrees of Separation, Sam and Dede (SF and NY Premieres), The Crucible), City Lights Theater (Rocky Horror Show), and Santa Cruz Shakespeare (asst. designer, Frog and Toad). Brooke is the 2015 Recipient for Best Costume Design by Theatre Bay Area for her work on We Players’ Ondine at Sutro.

Muterspaugh, who served as SF Shakes' Associate Artistic Director from 2014-2017, has been teaching, acting and directing for the Festival since 2010. As a Resident Artist, he has taught Bay Area Shakespeare Camps, Upstart Crows, Advanced Shakespeare Workshop, and Midnight Shakespeare programs, as well as creating the Shakespeare for All Central Valley Residency Program. As a director he has helmed four seasons of Shakespeare on Tour productions, as well as co-directing the 2014 Free Shakespeare in the Park production of The Taming of the Shrew. Regional acting credits include: Cyrano and The Country House (TheatreWorks), Last Night of Ballyhoo and Servant of Two Masters (PCPA), Julius Caesar (Utah Shakespeare Festival), A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Othello (Southwest Shakespeare Company), Charley’s Aunt (Creede Repertory Theatre), A Christmas Carol and Meet Me Incognito (Geva Theatre Center), Lend Me a Tenor (Livermore Shakespeare), King John and The Liar (Marin Shakespeare Company), Three Days of Rain and Harper Regan (Jewel Theatre), and The Winter’s Tale and Macbeth (San Francisco Shakespeare Festival). He is a graduate of PCPA - Pacific Conservatory Theatre and a proud member of Actors’ Equity.

Gabriel began participating in summer camps with SF Shakes at the age of 10, and was an Upstart Crow at 16, before leaving the Bay Area for New Orleans to pursue a B.A. in Theater Arts and Music Industry Studies from Loyola University. He graduated there in 2016 and returned to the Bay Area and to SF Shakes to serve as Hospitality Manager for the Festival and as understudy to Horatio in this seasons' production of Hamlet. Gabriel is also a musician and writer, and has worked in the restaurant industry in both the Bay Area and New Orleans for over 5 years.

Amaya is a rising senior at the International High School of the French American International School in San Francisco. She is delighted to be working with San Francisco Shakespeare's Intern Company this summer into the fall for the third time. Her real interest in costuming began when she received the opportunity to intern for SF Shakes in the beginning of summer 2015 and she has thoroughly enjoyed it ever since. Previously she has worked as an intern during Romeo and Juliet (SF Shakes) doing solely costumes and The Winter's Tale (SF Shakes) doing costumes as well as makeup and wig styling. Amaya looks forward to continuing working in costumes during Hamlet's run and hopes to continue it in the future.

Justin is a recent graduate from Columbia College Chicago where he also had the privilege of performing at Second City and iO. He is very lucky to be working with the Stage Management Team, as well as Understudying various roles in Hamlet. He can be seen most Friday's performing at Made Up Theatre in Fremont.
