SF Shakespeare Festival

Rebecca (she/her) has been on the staff of the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival since 2002 and Artistic Director since 2012. She holds a BA in English and Theatre from Scripps College and an MFA in performance from U.C. Davis. She has taught and written curriculum at the elementary through college levels. As a director and teaching artist, she has worked locally with Marin Theatre Company, PlayGround, Napa Valley Shakespeare Festival, Pear Theatre, Napa Valley Repertory Theatre, Peninsula Youth Theatre, Los Altos Youth Theatre and Shakespeare At Stinson. Ms. Ennals has directed eight productions for the Festival's Shakespeare On Tour in-school touring program, six productions for the Civic Arts Stage Company program in Pleasanton, and four productions for Free Shakespeare in the Park. She also regularly writes the Festival’s Green Shows and conceived and executed the 2012 pop-up Shakespeare project "30 Days of Free Shakespeare in the Parklet" and the 2017 project “35 Famous Speeches in 35 Famous Places.” She  developed a new musical of As You Like It with The Kilbanes and Phil Wong, which was produced in Summer 2019.

Latanya has performed professionally with Dimensions Dance Theater since 1986, and has studied and toured nationally and internationally, performing multidisciplinary, socially responsive works rooted in African diasporic dance forms. Latanya holds a B.A. in Physical Education/Dance, a Master's Degree in Arts Administration, and currently teaches dance at Contra Costa College. In addition to choreographing major works for Dimensions Dance Theater and other influential dance companies in the bay area, Latanya has set choreography for several theater productions: Ubuntu Theatre’s production of Dance of the Holy Ghost (2015); Delina Dream Productions’ An Open Love Letter to Black Fathers (2015); Contra Costa College’s production of In the Blood and For Colored Girls (2014); and Purlie Victorious (2014).

Kyle is the Technical Director for the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival. Prior to joining the Festival, Kyle has worked as Technical Director for Peninsula Youth Theatre and Renegade Theatre Experiment. He has also worked as a carpenter at Palo Alto Children’s Theatre, Opera San José, Long Lake Camp for the Arts, Palo Alto Players, and Broadway by the Bay. Kyle graduated from Santa Clara University with a BA in Theatre Arts and US History.

Maggie graduated with her BA in Technical Theater from San Francisco State University. Maggie is a teaching artist who is highly engaged with Bay Area schools and theaters and is currently the drama teacher at Prospect Sierra Elementary School. Her stage management credits include: Black Orpheus (ACT), The Big Meal (ACT), The Rover (Shotgun Players), Top Girls (Shotgun Players) and Glengarry Glen Ross (Theatre First).

Sara is thrilled to be working on her first production at San Francisco Shakespeare Festival. She most recently worked on The How and The Why at the Aurora Theatre. She has also worked at TheatreWorks, San Jose Stage Company, Pear Theater, Palo Alto Players, Silicon Valley Shakespeare, & re:act. She is also a lighting designer, recently designing Uncle Vanya and Tribes at Pear Theater.

Jay designed last season's SF Shakes/Los Altos Youth Theatre's co-production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and this season's The Little Princess as well as last summer's Free Shakespeare in the Park production of The Winter's Tale. In 2016 he also designed the SF Mime Troupe’s Schooled, Origins of Love, a multi-show play fest at the University of San Francisco, and Golden Thread’s ReOrient play fest. Other designs include: Big Love (French-American International High School, where he also taught this year), Shirley Valentine (Cinnabar Theatre, Petaluma), Almost, Maine (6th Street Playhouse, Santa Rosa), Wit, Beauty Queen of Leenane, and Anton in Show Business (Palo Alto Players), Pirates of Penzance (Raven Players, Healdsburg),  Noises Off and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Coastal Rep, Half Moon Bay), and Theatre Rhinoceros. Eva is a local costume designer and wearable artist in the Bay Area. Since graduating college with a BA in Public Health, she dove straight into her other passion, working backstage in costumes to keep actors looking good and communicable disease free! This is her first time working with San Francisco Shakespeare Festival and she is honored to be in such good company on this production of The Winter's Tale.

Darbus has been a part of Free Shakespeare in the Park for seven summers: first as an intern, then as Master Electrician and now also as Lighting Designer. He is a senior at Swarthmore College, where he is majoring in Engineering and minoring in Japanese. At Swarthmore, he has been the stage manager for a devised piece, Jessica, the production manager for Medea, and the lighting designer for Urinetown: The Musical. He also played Old Man Strong in Urinetown and Quince in A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Ryan is an actor, director, and occasional props master. For SF Shakes, he has appeared in Henry V (Fluellen) and Macbeth (Macduff), and directed A Midsummer Night's Dream in a co-production with the Los Altos Youth Theatre.

Anna is excited to join the production team as Wardrobe Supervisor for the first time at SF Shakes. She is originally from San Francisco and graduated a year ago from DePaul University in Chicago. Anna has been the costume shop fellow at Berkeley Rep for the last year where she worked in different capacities on all of the 2015-2016 shows. Last summer, she worked as a non-dressing stitching apprentice at the Santa Fe Opera. She is looking forward to spending her summer in the Bay Area.

Emma is very pleased to join SF Shakes and to be working with the lights she loves. She has worked previously at The College Preparatory School, Berkeley Playhouse, Swarthmore College, and Woodminster Summer Musicals.

James is a producer, dramaturge, filmmaker and San Francisco native. His background is in Critical Theory and Classical, Medieval, and Renaissance Literatures and his work attempts to bring approaches developed in those areas to bear on productions through close-reading, character work, and facilitating discussion. Recently he assisted with We Player’s production of Macbeth at Fort Point and the Collected Works’ production of Jean Genet’s The Balcony at San Francisco’s Old Mint. Currently he assistant produces The Iota, a series of performances based on fragments of “lost” works of Classical Greek Drama and produces and performs “The Living Odyssey” an on-going series of multi-dimensional recitations of Homer’s Odyssey. This summer he looks forward to expanding that project as well as revisiting the biography of Perseus with the Iota’s production of Andromeda and assisting with SF Shakes’ production of The Winter’s Tale.

Rainier Pearl-Styles (she/her/hers) is thrilled to be back at SFShakes this summer, where she began her career as an actor and teaching artist after coming up through their intern program. Last summer, Rainier had the opportunity to train and work at Bard on the Beach in Vancouver, Canada. She just graduated from Wellesley College with a BA in Theatre Studies, and will pursue theatre education in Boston next year. Her favorite Shakespeare play is The Winter's Tale and her favorite quote is "Let the sky rain potatoes!"

Gaby (she/her) is thrilled to be returning to San Francisco Shakespeare Company as a member of the Takes on Shakes team! She started her Bay Area theatre career as a stage management intern for the company’s 2016 run of The Winter's Tale and since then has joined SF Shakes the past two summers as ASM and wardrobe assistant for As You Like It: A New Musical and as ASM and props coordinator for King Lear. Other highlights of her past work include stage managing Urinetown at Berkeley Playhouse and Downton AirBnB (the 2019 Gala) for Lamplighters.

Evan is a second-year theatre undergrad with a focus in design at UC San Diego, and is very excited to join SF Shakes this summer for the production of The Winter's Tale. New to theatre, he enjoys both playwriting and design, specifically with costumes and lighting. Previous costumes credits include crew for Movers + Shakers and assistant designer for Go. Please. Go., both of which are new plays created by department staff and graduates. These two works were also written and produced at the UC San Diego Theatre District this past year.

Marysa is a senior Performing Arts & Social Justice major with a concentration in music at University of San Francisco. While this is her first time working with SF Shakes, she has been involved in theatre from a young age as a performer and musician, and recently has begun getting involved in different aspects of theatre production. She is an active member of USF’s student-run theatre group, The College Players, and had the privilege of interning on Broadway under Gordon Greenberg last summer. Most recently she directed The College Player’s production of RENT and looks forward to directing Veronica’s Room by Ira Levin next spring.
